SCEIP: Request for Support
Last Monday’s Board of Supervisor’s decision to continue with the Sonoma County Energy Independence Program was just what the doctor ordered. It reinvigorated supporters of the successful program in the face of attacks by FHFA, Freddie Mac and Fannie May and it sent a clear message to the rest of the state and country — we will not be intimidated by strong arm tactics and misguided policy.
SCEIP and other PACE programs may still be at risk of closing their doors unless we continue to make our voices heard and mobilize to keep them open. Below is a request for support from SCEIP’s Liz Yager.

Sonoma County Energy Independence Program (SCEIP)
Subject: Request for Support
Dear SCEIP Partners and Supporters:
The Sonoma County Energy Independence Program and other similar Property Assessed Clean Energy Programs (PACE) across the country have been called into question by recent regulatory action as to whether the program uses loans or assessments as the prime tool for financing. On Tuesday, July 13th , 2010, The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors strongly re-affirmed the County’s commitment to the innovative Sonoma County Energy Independence Program (SCEIP), and directed staff to keep the program open for business while Congress grapples with recent regulatory hurdles.
On July 15th , a Bill was introduced by Congressman Mike Thompson called the “PACE Assessment Protection Act” (view article). The Sonoma County Energy Independence Program and PACE programs across the country need your continued support. Please visit the ICLEI website for a list of Key Contacts. The PACE Now website has letters available to copy/paste into emails. Please help get your Member of Congress, and others you have influence with, to support and/or co-sponsor the PACE legislation.
We thank you for your efforts in water and energy efficiency, the reduction of green house gas emissions, and the creation of local jobs! Please share this email freely within your organizations and networks and check our website often for the latest news.
